Mr Virbhadra Singh, Chief Minister, launched the e-Pension Disbursal System which would enable the 74,029 retired employees to draw pensions direct from local banks enlisted by the state government.

He said that a pilot project was started in Solan district which proved successful after which it had been extended to the entire state. It would save both time and money of the retired persons who had been drawing pensions from the treasuries so far.

Mr Virbhadra Singh said that under the new scheme the Pension Payment Orders would remain with the district treasuries and every pensioners would be able to draw his pension through a bank branch which had been designated as Pension Disbursement Authorities (PDAs) and no cash disbursal would be carried by the treasuries.

He said that privacy aspect had also been taken care of. The pensioners would be getting web-interface break-up of twelve months for filing their Income Tax returns and their grievances would also be redressed through e-mail facilities. He said that the banks were also being equipped to undertake the new system successfully and deliver pensions efficiently on first day of every month.

Transport Minister G.S. Bali today inaugurated the e-governance centre at Parivahan Bhavan, here today. The Rs 1.30-crore project has been sponsored by the Department of Information Technology, Government of India.

Mr Bali said the project would enable computerisation of driving licences through a software called “saarthi” and registration of vehicles, issuance of permits, fitness certificates and enforcement of the Motor Vehicles Act, effectively. Two Regional Transport Offices, one state transport office and eight RLA offices in Kangra had been computerised.
